What is Cable gland
Cable gland (also known as waterproof cable gland, cable fixed gland and cable joint), a kind of electrical wire connector, is widely used in the fixing and protection of electrical wires and cables of mechanical equipment, marine electrical equipment and anti-corrosion equipment.
The main function is to tighten and seal the cable.
Tightening refers to locking the cable through cable gland, so that the cable does not produce axial displacement and radial rotation, so as to ensure the normal connection of the cable.
Sealing is often referred to as IP protection, that is, dustproof and waterproof. As for the protection level of cable gland, it depends on the structure of cable gland manufacturer. Maximum is up to IP68.
There are also some special places used in cable gland, such as shielded cable waterproof connectors, suitable for cables with shielding layer, armoured cable waterproof connectors for armoured cables, explosion-proof cable waterproof connectors for dangerous areas such as mines, etc.
It can be divided into general type and heavy duty type.
Heavy duty type is distinguished from ordinary industry type, mainly heavy industry type, which is used in explosion-proof places.
It can also be divided into plastic cable gland and metal cable gland according to material quality:
Plastic cable gland , now the industry mainly uses nylon materials (PA6, PA66) also use PVDF and other materials;
Most of the metal cable glands in the industry use brass. In order to prevent corrosion, nickel plating cable gland is often used. At the same time, stainless steel materials are also used, such as stainless steel 304, stainless steel 316, and stainless steel 316L and so on.
